null hypothesis theory

artist’s shitty statement

a null hypothesis is a hypothesis set up to be nullified or refuted in order to support an alternative hypothesis. in more simplistic terms, the null hypothesis is used in experimental analysis that postulates that there will be no statistical difference between two or more sets of results. the null hypothesis is presumed true until statistical evidence in the form of a hypothesis test indicates otherwise. the formulation of such a hypothesis, can be used to statistically establish the probability of observing the obtained data or data more different from the predicted null hypothesis. this probability is more commonly defined as "significance."

if experimental observations contradict the prediction of the null hypothesis, it means that either the null hypothesis is false, or the event under observation does not occur with high probability. this gives us high confidence in [the] falsehood[. of the null hypothesis]. however, accepting the alternative hypothesis only commits us to a difference in observed parameters. it does not prove that the theory or principles that predicted such a difference is true, since it is always possible that the difference could be due to additional factors not recognized by the theory.

the null hypothesis and its use to prove or disprove theorems has become very controversial. since the null hypothesis is usually the reverse of what the experimenter actually believes, it is put forward only to allow the data to contradict it. rejecting the null hypothesis says nothing or very little about the likelihood that the null is true.

thus, the null hypothesis can be viewed as a ritual conducted to convince ourselves that we have the evidence needed to confirm our theories, and by extension, our experiences. this piece is intended to provoke exploration of self and the relationship of self to circumstance or environment, via contradiction. many thanks to all who have contributed their ideas, interpretations, and theorems.

H0 : µnothing = µcertain = µforever

null hypothesis:

nothing is certain
nothing is forever
what is forever certain is nothing
forever is certainly nothing

null hypothesis applied:

i was forever once
i was certain something could be nothing
i was certain nothing could be something
certainly forever could be mine

but nothing is certain in time
time is forever uncertain
about the nothing it holds
over time

Once
i was something once
once being something mattered
it mattered if i was nothing
because being something was all that mattered

Now
now i am nothing
now i am something
but being nothing matters not as much
as when being something mattered
does it really matter?
or matter does it not?

art is true
art is everlasting
what is everlasting is truely art
true art is everlasting

but everlasting doesn’t last
because in the end
we can’t ever see
either the truth in art
or the art in truth

poetry is uncertain.
poetry is dissolving.
what is dissolved uncertainly is language.
dissolution is poetry.
